Install

ChatGPT Atlas is a desktop application. There is no package manager install command. Download and install it from the official page:

Step 1 -- Download

Navigate to the official download page and click the download button for your platform:

At launch, Atlas was available for macOS. Windows support was announced as coming soon. Linux availability had not been confirmed as of the October 2025 release.

Step 2 -- Install

macOS:

1. Open the downloaded .dmg file.
2. Drag ChatGPT Atlas into your Applications folder.
3. Launch it from Applications or Spotlight.

Windows (when available):

1. Run the downloaded installer .exe.
2. Follow the setup wizard.
3. Launch from the Start menu.

Step 3 -- Sign In

On first launch, Atlas will prompt you to sign in with your OpenAI / ChatGPT account. A free account is sufficient to start. Plus or Pro is required for full agentic features.

Step 4 -- Setup Prompts

During onboarding, Atlas will present two opt-in prompts:

• Browser Memories -- allows ChatGPT to remember what you browse and use it to improve responses. Review the privacy implications on the Overview page before enabling.
• Ask ChatGPT sidebar -- keeps the AI sidebar active as you browse any site. This sends page summaries to OpenAI servers in real time.

Both can be enabled or disabled later in Settings > Personalization > Reference browser memories.

System Requirements

• macOS: version unspecified at launch; expect Apple Silicon and Intel support.
• A ChatGPT account (free tier or above).
• Internet connection required; Atlas has no offline mode.
